FieldView for AcuSolve Users
This detached eddy simulation (DES) of the NREL Unsteady Aerodynamics Experiment features a ten-meter Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine with two blades. The image shows a single time step from an unsteady simulation that runs 12 full rotations with one time step for every two degrees of rotation. An isosurface of vorticity, colored by velocity, shows the complex wake interactions. Simulations such as this are used to identify and quantify sources of acoustic noise and fatigue-inducing stress and are similar to work performed with rotor- and propeller-driven aircraft.

AcuSolve™ is a general-purpose, finite element-based flow solver from Altair with a reputation for robustness, speed, and accuracy. The solver is well-suited for coupled fluid-structure problems and recognized as a leader for fluid mixing applications. AcuSolve is used in a variety of industries for many types of applications. AcuSolve is often credited by users for the ease with which solutions converge, and for its accuracy for some classes of problems.
The Altair solution environment includes AcuFieldView. AcuFieldView is a special version of FieldView for post-processing AcuSolve solutions that reads all AcuSolve solution files and is enabled with FieldView Parallel to 8 processors. (Read the Altair announcement.)
As the industry's leading post-processor, FieldView delivers advanced capabilities and is an essential element of a highly productive CFD workflow, where interpretation and visualization of results can be a core strength, unburdened by the large volume of data created using modern computing and simulation tools.
FieldView provides the critical link for turning simulation data into actionable information. Powerful and easy to use, it enables both qualitative and quantitative analysis and quickly identifies important flow structures and critical values. FieldView FVX™ is widely used to automate processes and embed best practices, allowing users to quickly ascertain which simulations are of the greatest interest and which design or research criteria have the greatest impact on system performance and behavior. Advanced visualization tools allow users to create meaningful and compelling images and animations that support decision-making and increase credibility.
Intelligent Light and Altair Engineering collaborate extensively on application development, deployment, and support, ensuring users a seamless CFD work environment and tools that are technologically advanced yet easy-to-use. Our shared goal is to create a powerful, productive solution that exceeds expectations and increases your return on investment in CFD technology.
FieldView: Capability - Productivity - Impact
- Easy, intuitive, interactive exploration and interrogation of even your largest models
- Perform numerical analysis interactively or via automated process
- Industry-leading visualization, presentation, and collaboration tools
- Real-time exploration of steady and unsteady data
Export and Interface Options
FieldView reads many common data and solver data formats. Many solvers also provide a comprehensive export to the FieldView Unstructured File (FV-UNS) format. Altair and Intelligent Light maintain both an FV-UNS export capability from AcuSolve and a direct reader for AcuSolve's native (.log) files. Please review our Solver Interface information page for complete information on available interfaces and certification status for your solution data.
