LS-DYNA fluid-structure interaction (FSI) simulation of a liquid filled bottle dropped onto an inclined plate.
FSI and CAE post-processing is among the new capabilities of FieldView Version 12.

FieldView Version 12 brings many benefits for post-processing users. From improvements in 2-D plotting to new capabilities for large data and automation, existing FieldView users will see immediate productivity gains in their existing work. New data readers and capabilities also make FieldView available to audiences who have long sought after access to FieldView capability, reliability, and usability.

New capabilities in this major new FieldView release:

Large Data

FieldView is the leader in working with large data and improvements in FieldView 12 will bring new benefits to users working with large datasets. These users will benefit from:

  • Improved parallel algorithms
  • Reduced memory requirements, Smart LInked Memory (SLIM)
  • Faster graphics performance
  • Faster data read-in for FV-UNS files
  • Windows 64 support

A Formula 1 racing team that depends on FieldView is now reading in datasets of entire vehicle simulations on Windows based workstations for the first time with any application. This is a result of the enhanced data management in this latest release.

CAE post-processing

FieldView has long supported multiphysics for such applications as electromagnetics. The addition of structural analysis support creates a powerful tool well suited to the interrogation and presentation of Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) and structural analysis simulations. Data may be directly read from LS-DYNA simulations and soon from ABAQUS and ANSYS solutions.

Engineers and researchers performing structural analysis and FSI simulations can now benefit from the capability and productivity that CFD users have long exploited. From small simulations with complex physics to large, transient simulations, FieldView offers tremendous post-processing tools and features in a package that is straightforward to learn and use.

1-Click Animation

Create animations from multiple transient datasets with the push of a button.

Through the use of the Merged Times feature of FieldView, the user may create a transient animation from multiple datasets with the click of a single button. The user can easily animate and create flipbooks, simultaneously presenting both structural deformations and fluid flow features.

When interactively exploring datasets or creating presentation material, dataset sweeps can be created that span all the datasets in a FieldView session. Here again, a single button click will result in the creation of flipbook animations with multiple swept surfaces. It is that easy and the entire process can be automated for repeatability and consistency.

New direct readers

New readers in Version 12 expand the options available to users for both reading and managing their data. Direct readers are available to simplify data read-in and reduce the storage requirements associated with your simulations. FieldView UNS exports and compliancy from solver packages remains high and users have the choice in designing their workflow. New readers in FieldView 12:

  • AcuSolve™
  • FLOW-3D
  • FLUENT®
  • LS-DYNA

Also coming soon for use with FieldView 12 will be direct reader plug-ins for ABAQUS, ANSYS, EXODUS II, STAR-CCM+. These readers will be downloadable for use by all supported FieldView users.

Arbitrary Polyhedral Element Support

Arbitrary polyhedral elements are increasingly used by commercial solvers. FIELDVIEW handles arbitrary polyhedral elements natively and this rich support extends the benefits to the post-processing realm and eliminates the cracking and performance impact sometimes associated with tetrahedralization or translation schemes or translation.

In this example, two STAR-CD datasets utilizing arbitrary polyhedral elements are directly compared under different flow conditions (data courtesy of ANSYS, Inc.).

This STAR-CD case uses augments standard hex elements with arbitrary polyhedral elements along the joints in this ball valve (Data courtesy of CD-adapco, Ltd.).

Productivity and control

New graphical display options for streamlines meet with enhanced abilities to control the FieldView experience. Greater control of scalar ranges, legends, arrow and sphere heads on streamlines, and multiple plots per dataset are all ways that FieldView version 12 gives the user a wide range of choices for viewing and presenting data.

Automated control of display options and surface rakes has been expanded in FieldView FVX. This enables a new range of customized output and automatic report generation capabilities. Scalar ranges may be selected to automatically scale based upon the scalar min/max range. New commands provide control of text font, location, and appearance. Enhanced control of and geometric colors and annotation tools such as arrows provide flexibility.
