Reduce turnaround time and improve throughput for post-processing
FieldView Parallel gives uses the ability to use multiple processors from your HPC server or multi-core workstation to address the bottleneck created by the growth in both the complexity and volume of CFD analysis.
- High performance: Reduce turnaround time on large, multi-grid solutions
- High throughput: Increase throughput with concurrent post-processing
- Flexible: Leave your data where the solution was run
- Easy: Simple, one-line config file change to enable
Reduce turnaround time on large, multi-grid solutions
Use part of your HPC resources to post-process your solutions in a fraction of the time they would require using traditional, single processor approaches. Post-processing tasks that previously required hours may now be completed in minutes.
FieldView parallel works well with Multi-grid Plot3D (structured) and FV-UNS (unstructured) files which may be created as the simulation is setup or with partitioned files created when the solution output files are created. Several commercial solvers including FLUENT (ANSYS) and STAR-CCM+ (CD-adapco) allow users to directly export multi-grid FV-UNS files for FieldView Parallel.
Increase throughput with concurrent post-processing
The use of HPC resources can also be applied to increase throughput with jobs running on fewer processors.
- Multiple, simultaneous batch jobs
- Concurrent processing of unsteady timesteps
- Reduce a 16 hour animation production to just 2 hours
Don't move data
Moving data is time consuming and often impractical. Using FieldView in client-server mode allows the analyst to work at their desktop while the solution data remains on the server. FieldView passes small amounts of data to the workstation and maintains lightweight network communication with the server when new data is required. This ensures fully interactive performance and a productive computing environment.
Enabling FieldView Parallel
Enabling FieldView Parallel is straightforward with options directly available in the FieldView user interface:

The GUI contains several options where:
Local basic parallel - Runs ‘three-for-free’ parallel [shared memory]. Users should expect a 2x speedup using three parallel processes (4 cores) for most operations.
Local licensed parallel - Runs on available local CPUs and licensed processes [shared memory]. Users should expect a 5x speedup when using 8 cores.
To run FieldView Parallel on cluster or in your own custom environment, the setup is straightforward and shown in the What's New in FieldView 12.3 (PDF 336K) document.
