Red Bull Drives CFD to Formula 1 Winner's Circle
|
Formula 1 racing is fast, and not just on the track. The short time between races means engineers must fully understand the aerodynamic effects of potential design changes and quickly turn that knowledge into design decisions. In the 2009 season, Red Bull Technology's innovative and radical new RB5 race car has taken 1-2 finishes at the Chinese, British, and German Grand Prix events, and recently sped to first place in both Japan and Brazil. Red Bull Technology relies on full-vehicle CFD
simulations and FieldView post-processing to continuously evolve the RB5's aerodynamics, turning simulation data into
actionable information in this highly productive CFD workflow. Read the full story here.

Webinar on Demand: More CFD in Less Time with Post-Processing Automation |
| Repeatable, reliable, reusable scripts can make advanced post-processing simpler, faster, and more efficient. Gain insight into the several levels of automation
that are possible with FieldView through this archived webinar presentation. Starting with an
interactive post-processing session, you'll see how to build that interactive work into
reusable scripts, and then apply that work to new datasets. You'll also learn how to apply an existing visualization to a new dataset and how to create images and animations using automated batch operations. Click here to get started!

FieldView 12.2: Faster Parallel Performance for All
|
Faster parallel performance, improved data handling, enhanced workflow
and productivity capabilities, and support for Windows® HPC Server 2008 highlight the release of FieldView 12.2.
Architected to exploit multi-core and
multi-processor computers operating as a single system or in high-performance
computing clusters, FieldView 12.2 allows Windows and Linux users to use the parallel features of the
standard FieldView application. When running in parallel, FieldView 12.2 processes
runs twice as fast on four processor cores, and up to five times faster on
eight processor cores.
There's much more to FieldView 12.2, including easy export of FieldView
Parallel-ready multi-grid models, a solver-independent solution for arbitrary polyhedrals interpolation, new SCRIPT commands, a utilities menu, and
enhanced graphics capabilities. Discover all the details here.

Ask the Expert: Getting Started with Parallel FieldView
|
Q: What's the quickest way to get started using Parallel
FieldView?
A: When setting up for Parallel FieldView (PFV), we allow
many of the options to default. The simplest and most immediate way to
run Parallel is to create a Server Configuration File (.srv) in your
FieldView installation's 'sconfig' directory which contains
only one line:
ServerProgram: /opt/FieldView/fv/bin/mpich/ch_shmem/bin/mpirun
-np 4 /opt/FieldView/fv/bin/fvsrv_shmem
The above assumes that your installation path is /opt/FieldView,
and that you are using a version of FieldView which provides parallel
servers. Please note that to take advantage of PFV, you need to have a
multi-core and/or multi-CPU system, and be reading data appropriate for
Parallel FieldView as described in our What's New document for FieldView version 12.2. You have questions; we have answers! Submit your FieldView question for
an answer in a future newsletter. Email info@ilight.com, with the
subject line "Reader Submission for Ask the Expert."
