Red Bull Racing takes top Formula 1 honors

Congratulations to the Red Bull Racing team on winning their first Formula 1 World Constructor's Championship! Only six seasons old, the Red Bull team piled on the honors in 2010, with Sebastian Vettel becoming the youngest-ever F1 world champion to claim the driver's trophy and fellow driver Mark Webber taking third place. The team also achieved six of the season's fastest laps, with Vettel and Webber scoring three each.

Red Bull Racing's RB6, a car Formula1.com called "a dream car ... dangerously quick," took 15 of a possible 19 pole positions, and recently garnered Autosport Magazine's "Racing Car of the Year" award.

That kind of performance owes much to aerodynamics, and Red Bull Racing drives more than 80% of its aerodynamic design work through CFD - with FieldView as their post-processor of choice. A streamlined, automated CFD workflow allows them to analyze the car's aerodynamic performance quickly and efficiently. Get an inside look at Red Bull Racing's drive to the winner's circle with this case study illustrating high productivity, mission-critical CFD engineering.

Intelligent Light Kicks Off 2011 at AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting

There's no better way to get revved up for a new year than by attending the AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting, the largest aerospace industry event of the year. Many others feel the same

way - ASM saw record attendance this year. Intelligent Light's FieldView team, Applied Research Group staff, and international sales and support people were among the participants gathered in Orlando January 4-7, enjoying the opportunity to meet and talk with customers, partners, research colleagues, and friends both old and new.

Intelligent Light unveiled a true breakthrough in CFD at ASM with the first public demonstration of the new FieldView Version 13. This next-generation post-processing and workflow solution boasts an entirely new graphics core, a modern, unified GUI across all platforms, and robust new tools to manage and accelerate the CFD workflow. We demonstrated the new features and functionality of FieldView 13 throughout the conference, running large data problems interactively on laptops with unprecedented speed and performance. Audience members were both impressed and excited by the capabilities this upcoming release has to offer.

The FieldView Version 13 beta release will be available soon for customers and evaluations at ilight.com.

Our customer breakfast on Thursday gave friends and customers the chance to talk informally. Steve Legensky, Intelligent Light founder and general manager, discussed the launch of FieldView 13 and how the company is working to improve CFD productivity and capability in areas beyond post-processing.

Dr. Matthew Godo, FieldView product manager, presented

"A Practical Analysis of Unsteady Flow around a Bicycle Wheel, Fork, and Partial Frame using CFD," which describes the latest developments in this evolving, three-year research project. Addressing the challenge of complex, large data problems with a flexible, automation-based methodology, the study reveals surprising insights into aerodynamic flow. Read about the study; members on ilight.com can log in to our Member Center to access the full case study, animations, and related AIAA publications.

2010 Year in Review: Delivering Real Solutions, Real Benefits

At Intelligent Light, we're passionate about CFD and the very real benefits a highly productive, Time & Money gearsautomated CFD workflow can bring to any engineering organization. Developing robust, easy to use solutions that meet our users' challenges and help them get more from their CFD investments while saving time and reducing costs has always been our guiding philosophy. Our accomplishments and innovations in research, products, licensing, and other areas during 2010 continue to underscore that commitment.

Our Applied Research Group made significant contributions to the CFD community, including research into the use of GPUs for CFD and new methods to improve productivity by automating entire CFD workflows. While developing the forthcoming FieldView Version 13, we delivered FieldView 12.3, with new features and functionality and improved parallel capabilities. With FieldView 12.3, we introduced a unique, cost-effective licensing option for batch operations. Throughout the year, we traveled the globe to talk with customers, learn from them, and share the latest product and research news. Our leadership in leveraging high performance computing in the CFD workflow is paying dividends, with cloud-enabled CFD and more widely accessible HPC resources.
